Abstract: This seminar will introduce the adaptive intelligent systems research at South Dakota State University, USA. Specifically, it will focus on the integration of recent developed computational intelligence methodologies into the learning and adaptation system research, and further explore the wide applications across various critical engineering domains.
An essential component of this talk is a recent developed adaptive dynamic programming (ADP) architecture to improve learning and optimization capability over time. This architecture integrates a hierarchical goal/reference network and provides a more informative and detailed goal representation signal, to guide the system’s decision-making process. I will present several real-world applications to demonstrate the broader and far-reaching application based on such architecture, including smart grid, human-robot interaction and cyber-physical systems. As this is a multi-disciplinary research topic, a briefly discussion of the future research and collaboration opportunities along this direction will also be provided.
Biosketch: Dr. Ni is currently an Assistant Professor in Department of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science (EECS), South Dakota State University (SDSU), Brookings, SD, USA. He received his Ph.D. degree from the Department of Electrical, Computer and Biomedical Engineering, University of Rhode Island (URI), Kingston, RI, in 2015. He received B.S in Department of Control Science and Engineering (currently renamed as College of Automation), Huazhong University of Science and Technology (HUST), Wuhan, China, in 2010.
His research mainly includes Computational Intelligence, Adaptive Control, Machine Learning, and applications for Smart Grid, Robotics and Cyber-Physical Systems.
