Abstract:
Power electronic converters have been increasingly found in power grid applications, ranging from renewable energy generations to high-voltage direct current transmission systems. The dynamic interactions between the power grid and converter-based systems pose new challenges on the system stability and power quality. This talk will begin with an overview of small-signal modeling methods for grid-connected power converters, and then the root causes of different instability phenomena induced by converter control dynamics will be identified. Active stabilization techniques for grid-converter interactions will next be discussed. Finally, challenges and prospects on the stability and control of modern power electronic based power systems will be given.
Short Biography :
Xiongfei Wang received the PhD degree in energy technology from Aalborg University, Aalborg, Denmark in 2013, where he is currently an Associate Professor with the Department of Energy Technology and a co-leader of the HARMONY research group funded by European Research Council (ERC). His research interests include dynamic modeling of power electronics converters, harmonics analysis and mitigation, stability and control of power-electronic-based power systems.
Dr. Wang has contributed over 60 IEEE journal articles and 100 IEEE conference papers, including 6 highly cited papers in Web of Science. In 2016, he was elected into Aalborg University Talent Management Program as one of 18 top young talents for next-generation research leaders. He received 4 IEEE prize paper awards, and the outstanding reviewer award of IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics. He serves as the Associate Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics, the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications, and the IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics (JESTPE). He has been the Guest Associate Editors for 3 special issues in the IEEE JESTPE, and the Guest Editor on the Special Issue: “Grid-Connected Power Electronics Systems” in the IEEE Transactions on Industry Applications. He is also the Technical Program Chair for IEEE eT&D 2017, which is a new industry-focused workshop launched by IEEE PELS and PES.
