Abstract:With the power converters widely-spread in transportation, industrial, and military application, the reliable operation of the power converter is becoming a key technology in safety and reliability enhancement research. The semiconductors, which are the main components of the power converter, suffering from long-time high-frequency switching, are considered as one of the most fragile components in the power converter. The research into fault diagnosis and fault-tolerant control of the power converter will definitely enhance its reliability. The semiconductor faults feature with burstiness, randomness, collapsibility. Therefore, fast, accurate, and robust fault diagnosis methods are always highly desired. On the other hand, nonredundant topologies exploiting the possibility of minimum additional components can manage the power converter faults with a simple structure. The merits of nonredundant topologies make it very attractive for both industry and academia. However, nonredundant fault-tolerant topologies always have a feature of including many nonlinear constraints, reduced control freedom degrees, outputs conflicts. The researches on nonredundant fault-tolerant topology are still at the initial stage. Based on the signal processing and advanced nonlinear control theories, several fast and effective fault diagnosis methods for two-level and multilevel converters, and effective control scheme for the nonredundant fault-tolerant topologies are proposed to improve the reliability of the converter. On the other hand, the power converter system is a highly nonlinear switching system. The linearized control theory cannot fully explore the potential of these systems. Research on nonlinear control and modulation techniques can help improve the performance of the converters.
