Abstract: The Center for Advanced Power Systems (CAPS) at Florida State University is a multidisciplinary research center with a unique test and demonstration facility to perform advanced research on applications to electric ship, electric utility, transportation, as well as, developing an education program to train the next generation of power engineers. This presentation describes the real-time digital simulation, controller hardware-in-the-loop simulation and power hardware-in-the-loop simulation research at CAPS. In addition, some other power-related research of CAPS and on-going projects of power electronics research group will be introduced.
Bio: Hui Li received her B.S.E.E. and M.S.E.E. from Automatic Control Engineering Department, HUST. She received her Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering from University of Tennessee, Knoxville in 2000. From 1999 to 2000, she worked at Power Electronics and Electric Machinery Research Center of Oak Ridge National Laboratory to develop bidirectional dc-dc converters for hybrid electric vehicles. From 2001-2002, she worked at Tyco Electronics on dc power supplies. Currently she is a professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering Department, College of Engineering, Center for Advanced Power Systems, Florida State University. Her research interests include dc-dc converters, multilevel inverters, as well as power electronics applications using WBG devices. She has received over $3M of single PI and PI grants from Department of Energy, National Science Foundation, Office of Naval Research, and Industry in the past including the prestigious NSF Career Award and GOALI award. She has published over 100 high quality papers and her Google h-index is 27. She has developed a power electronics research laboratory and a smart grid research laboratory at CAPS to conduct multidisciplinary research. She is an associate editor of IEEE Transaction on Power Electronics and Guest editor-in-chief of Emerging Electric Ship MVDC Power Technology [Special Issue] of IEEE Journal of Emerging and Selected Topics in Power Electronics.
